Term 3 Week 2

Wednesday 31 July 2024

Welcome – Nau mai haere mai

Welcome to Ngaere School to our newest 5 year old, Anna. Our roll is now at 161 with 3 more new entrants to start this term. Due to the high numbers in our Junior Room this term we have split Rooms 1 & 2 into 3 classes with Miss Hey teaching the new 5 year olds in R1, Mrs Andrews teaching the older Year 1s in the library and Miss Duncan taking the Year 2s in R2. This has resulted in smaller groups for at least 2 blocks every day. Miss Hey’s and Mrs Andrews’ children join together each afternoon to allow Mrs Andrews her time as Deputy Principal and Reading Recovery teacher. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to talk to one of these teachers.

It was great to welcome some of the Taranaki Bulls players to school on Friday. Thanks to Matahio Energy and Yarrows all children received a poster which they were able to get signed as well as a Yarrow cookie. We have General Admission Northern Terrace tickets for the Bulls game vs Waikato on 8th September, 2.05pm kickoff available for anyone who might want to take their children to the game. Please get in touch with Karen in the office if you are interested.

Just a general reminder that school begins at 8.55am. Please ensure children are here at school prior to the bell. If you know you will be late  please give the office a ring 764 8643 or txt 027 2219842. And once again if your child is absent from school, please advise either by the skool loop app, text. email or phone.  Thank you.

Kind regards

Megan

Welcome – Nau mai haere mai

Welcome back to what promises to be a busy third term.

Special welcome to those children and their families joining Ngaere School for the first time: Neko (R6), Riley, Lachlan & Alyssa as new Entrants in Room 1.

This term teachers are working with their classes to put together a school-wide production, the first for a few years. Thank you to Miss Dravitzki who is driving this.

Our two senior rooms are also busy with sport (Rich / Weir matches and McLeod Shield / Hurlstone Trophy) as well as an opportunity to engage with the Taranaki wide Lead Conference mid August and the EPro8 Technology challenge which will kick start next week with children in Rooms 5, 6 & 7 being able to show how they can work together using the EPro8 kits we hire for the week.

Cross Country training starts this term  with dates for our school cross country being set soon. Competent competitors 8 years and up will be able to opt into the Central Cross Country in Stratford and then onto the Taranaki Champs in Hawera towards the end of term.

It is also time to start thinking about pet calves or lambs for our Pet Day which will be at the beginning of Term 4, Wed 16 Oct.

Our overarching focus for the term is ‘Excellence’. We define this as, “Personal best always. Recognising and celebrating the achievements of ourselves as well as others around us.” We will be looking for this in many aspects of school life including bookwork, behaviour choices, achievement, pride in their uniform.

As always, I am available to discuss any concerns or queries regarding your child’s schooling. Feel free to call in or make an appointment through the office.

Kind regards,

Megan

Community Notice – New Principal Announced

The Ngaere School Board is very excited to announce the appointment of Shane Burgess as our new Principal as of the 14th October 2024. The Ngaere School community can be assured that the selection process was robust and thorough. We listened to the staff and community feedback. The board believes Shane will be an excellent leader for our kura and we’re looking forward to welcoming him at the start of Term 4.

Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa
Ko Shane Burgess tōku ingoa

I am immensely excited and feel very privileged to have been offered the role as Tumuaki/Principal at Ngaere School.
I’m currently employed as the Deputy Principal at Tawhiti School in Hāwera, having returned to New Zealand from London at the end of 2017. I have taught and led in a number of schools around the country over the past 20 years but have always been proud to call Taranaki ‘home.’

Hugely passionate about Music, The Performing Arts, Te Aō Māori and Education Outside of the Classroom, I’m looking forward to the opportunity of leading a school with long held traditions and a real community spirit.

My wife Jade and I are the proud parents of two wonderful children – Maia and George, who I’m sure you’ll meet in and around the school, on the side of the sports fields and bounding into many school and community events over the next few years.

I look forward to meeting and getting to know the Ngaere community in the very near future.

Ngā manaakitanga

Welcome – Nau mai haere mai

Kia ora koutou,

A very warm welcome to Tayla and Celeste who have joined us in Room 1 at Ngaere School.  Wishing you both happy school days.

Puanga Family Day

It was wonderful to see everyone come out and join us for our annual Puanga Celebration. I have to say I think it might just be my favourite one yet. It was touch and go with the weather, but the sun broke through for a sunny afternoon. The children sang their hearts out and it was great to sit and share a meal together. The school was so proud to show off all of their hard work this term and it was really nice to be able to publicly acknowledge all those special groups of people who help to make school happen. Well done to Chelsea for surviving her first community day as our new PTA chairperson, you worked hard to make this event a success. A huge thanks to the parents and PTA who came together to make the day happen, many hands certainly did make for light work. I hope you enjoyed our Art Exhibition. The children have spent many hours studying and developing their portraiture skills and it was exciting to see all their work on display. We look forward to welcoming Mrs England back next week!

Reminder:  There is no school tomorrow as it is Matariki Day. Have a safe and enjoyable long weekend.

Junior Trip to the Firestation, Art Gallery and Library

Last Thursday the Rooms 1, 2 and 3 headed out to see how places in our community contribute to our lives and meet the people behind these vibrant community spaces.

“I liked the library. It was fun. I love to read. I like how the story comes together, if I was in a story I would be a cow. I would eat grass and drink water. The farmer would milk me. I would have a calf. I would name my baby Till. She would eat grass like me. She would drink water and she would grow up in my story.” By Georgia Rm 1 and 2

“Do you know what I liked the best? I liked the fire station and the bell. My favourite was the house that had the smoke in it. That is my favourite. The fire truck is my favourite too.” By Olivia Rm 1 and 2
