Term 3 Week 1

Wednesday 24 July 2024

Welcome – Nau mai haere mai

Welcome back to what promises to be a busy third term.

Special welcome to those children and their families joining Ngaere School for the first time: Neko (R6), Riley, Lachlan & Alyssa as new Entrants in Room 1.

This term teachers are working with their classes to put together a school-wide production, the first for a few years. Thank you to Miss Dravitzki who is driving this.

Our two senior rooms are also busy with sport (Rich / Weir matches and McLeod Shield / Hurlstone Trophy) as well as an opportunity to engage with the Taranaki wide Lead Conference mid August and the EPro8 Technology challenge which will kick start next week with children in Rooms 5, 6 & 7 being able to show how they can work together using the EPro8 kits we hire for the week.

Cross Country training starts this term  with dates for our school cross country being set soon. Competent competitors 8 years and up will be able to opt into the Central Cross Country in Stratford and then onto the Taranaki Champs in Hawera towards the end of term.

It is also time to start thinking about pet calves or lambs for our Pet Day which will be at the beginning of Term 4, Wed 16 Oct.

Our overarching focus for the term is ‘Excellence’. We define this as, “Personal best always. Recognising and celebrating the achievements of ourselves as well as others around us.” We will be looking for this in many aspects of school life including bookwork, behaviour choices, achievement, pride in their uniform.

As always, I am available to discuss any concerns or queries regarding your child’s schooling. Feel free to call in or make an appointment through the office.

Kind regards,

Megan

New Principal Appointment: The school board are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Shane Burgess (currently Deputy Principal at Tawhiti School, Hawera) as our new Principal as of beginning of Term 4. I am looking forward to meeting with Shane and ensuring a smooth transition for him into the role.

Community Engagement Meeting:

Proposed Amendment to the Ngaere School Enrolment Scheme

Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga| The Ministry of Education is working in collaboration with our school board to amend the enrolment scheme for our school.
The amendment is required to:
     • ensure the home zone includes all the addresses for which Ngaere School is the closest school of its type.
    • update references to legislation
    • remove ambiguities
A proposed amendment has been drafted and is available to be viewed at the school office.
As part of this process, the Board, along with the Ministry of Education would like to consult with the school community and with people living in the area for which the school is a reasonably convenient school. We are therefore holding a community engagement meeting at 3:30 pm on Thursday 1 August 2024, to be held here at school.
To help us with planning, could you please advise the school office on 06 7648643 if you are attending.
If you are unable to personally attend either meeting, or would prefer to respond via e-mail, please feel free to comment or ask questions by e-mailing John Dale, Senior Adviser Network via:  John.Dale@education.govt.nz .

Can you figure out who these staff members are?
